Run Kintrel in the browser. It keeps messages and encryption keys in durable, per-account origin-private storage, so a reload does not lose your history — and it refuses to start rather than hold that state in memory if the browser cannot provide it. That storage needs a current Chromium-based browser.

Android direct install

Sideload the APK safely.

Android calls any app installed outside Google Play an “unknown app.” That label describes the delivery path, not whether the APK is encrypted or signed. Stay on the official path.

Download only from kintrel.app. Do not install an APK forwarded in a chat, email, or file-sharing link.

    Compare the SHA-256 digest

    Open the published digest and compare all 64 hexadecimal characters. On macOS or Linux, run shasum -a 256 kintrel-*.apk; in Windows PowerShell, run Get-ChildItem .\kintrel-*.apk | Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256. Do not install if it differs.

    Open the APK. If Android asks, allow your current browser to install this unknown app.

    Confirm the app name is Kintrel, complete installation, and open it from your launcher.

Before you install

A few useful answers.

Why did my browser warn about the file?

Browsers and operating systems often warn about new or less-frequently downloaded installers. Confirm the address bar shows kintrel.app and do not bypass a signature or integrity error.

How does Kintrel choose a desktop architecture?

The page detects your operating system, not CPU architecture—modern browsers often hide that detail. Windows and Linux are explicitly x86_64 today. The macOS package is Apple silicon (arm64) and requires macOS 26.0 or newer. Review the label before downloading.

Can I message from the web app?

Yes. The browser client runs the same Compose interface and the same Thureos cryptography as the native apps, and registers a live messaging device only when the browser gives it durable per-account key and ratchet storage. That storage is available in current Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge); elsewhere the client says so and stops rather than keeping your keys somewhere a reload would erase. One tab per account — a second tab is told to use the first.
